With the appearance of two big FPS franchises on Wii (Medal of Honour and Call of Duty) it’s no suprise that High Voltage Software has chosen to release The Conduit exclusive to Wii.
The Conduit uses a Quantum 3 engine that has been designed specifically for the Wii which pushes the limits of the system in terms of both graphics and gameplay. This engine allows features such as bump mapping, reflection, refraction and gloss to be implemented into the game and the effect is comparable to the visuals of both the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
The story is based in Washington D.C. (never seen that location used in any recent games…) where an alien life force known as Drudge has attacked and its up to you, an ex-secret service member by the name of Mr. Ford, to discover the reasons for the attack. It seems like a pretty decent story and I’m hoping the single player will be good, but the most impressive looking feature of The Conduit has to be its online multiplayer capabilities.
This feature should include modes such as deathmatch and will use the Wii’s new Wii Speak peripheral so that players will be able to chat while playing online. Whether Nintendo will scrap this feature because of the risk of it destroying the Wii’s 'family friendly' image is unknown, but one must stay optimistic!
The gameplay mainly consists of painting alien organs across walls with sweet guns such as the SCAR (SOF Combat Assault Rifle). You’ll also often use your All-Seeing Eye to track down enemies, hunt for treasure and solve puzzles, kind of like scanning in Metroid Prime. Another useful feature is the Nofsinger indicator which allows you to see where grenades will land making interface a lot easier. With all these new and old gameplay features, what could possibly go wrong?
Keep your eye on this one, its sure to be big and should attract a lot of media coverage in the run up to its release this summer.
